The point isn’t for any of this to be quote unquote good. But more for it to, um, exist. One morning you wake up and everything looks different. Still: I’ve never had a coffee pot that doesn’t leak everywhere when I pour it.

I loved the Where the Wild Things Are movie. It might’ve had something to do with the way the creatures could jump extremely far and smash through trees. Or it might’ve been the way they asked Max if he could take away all the sadness and all the loneliness and the way he said yes. It’s actually a very depressing movie when you watch closely, when you really think about it.

When they first started making films, they weren’t sure the audience would follow cuts between cameras so they only used single, locked-down shots with the action coming and going like a play.

Isn’t that so like life? the woman said, mistakenly.

Or like Sontag: In place of a hermeneutics we need an erotics of art — a quote that is fundamentally changing the way I see the world.
