Giant Marshmallows

June 24, 2008

Life is a less linear journey than I was hoping it would be.  I guess we get fooled by all the compact fiction we absorb that tells us life is a continual journey with every moment moving the plot forward.  But if I’m honest my life feels more like a maze on the back of a cereal box, I follow a path for a bit then trace back and try another but keep getting stopped by giant cartoon marshmallows blocking me from the elusive center.  Damn marshmallows.

    This post resonates deeply.

I liked the comments you edited out (they came through in the RSS feed) but I was going to argue with them. I liked their honesty but I think they are things we need to contend with.

Briefly: This is not a downer post. Don’t take a vacation from hope. But I guess you already knew both of those things. 🙂

    Hey Joel,
Thanks for the comments. I edited out that section because it felt more self absorbed than I wanted, but it was definitly true. Thanks again man

Dude, I don’t know what to write without throwing gas on the fire. Your post (and the now-banned paragraph) sounds like my life. Especially today.

I’m more selective in the things that I hope in/for these days. That seems to help me deal with the mushrooms without punching any nuns.

I appreciate that you spelled marshmallows correctly. That word is grossly underestimated and misspelled by many.

    Marshmell… meill… mehlll… mill… mallows? We’re talking about marshmallows? Not mushrooms?

    …i gotta slow down…
