Andrew Bird

January 31, 2008

Every once in a while I’ll listen to an album that reminds me that music is more than just 4 chord progressions and record label produced sterility.  Albums can be beautiful things,  more than just a collection of 99 cent songs, but an experience in and of itself.  Songs can be more than just catchy riffs and catchy words.  Andrew Bird has reminded me.  He writes words that would make Allen Ginsburg snap his fingers and constructs songs like they were buildings.

Maybe it’s just me but i feel desperate for originality.  I feel desperate to hear and/or create music that means something, that explores and expands, that lifs and lags,  and does more than just “rocks out”.

Along with Andrew Bird I’ve been musically encouraged lately by the likes of:  Iron&Wine, Spoon, Sondre Lerche, Feist, Rouge Wave, and Wilco

Cheers,

Mike

Good to see you back in the blog world. Rock on bro. Now that I’m blogging I couldn’t stand to leave you with “no responses”. Peace out bro, SPH

How cool is it that someone else who loves Jesus and lives in North Texas even knows who Allen Ginsburg is.
